“I am more than happy to be a woman. Women are much more independent in hills as we all earn money from agriculture and art and craft. Even in society we get a lot of respect. We feel safe here, safe to go anywhere alone. For my daughter I would like to provide good education so that she can get a good job and a secured life. I will like her to settle in the Spiti valley so that she is not far from me and from our beautiful culture and traditions.
We are busy during the summers, but we get a good leisure time during winters. As it is cold outside so we ladies gather at one place, we make gloves socks and sweaters for ourselves and for our family, even for our relatives. We also do some craft work or we make woolen mats. We utilize the time we get in winters to make life easy for summers by making agricultural tools, ropes which we use in our fields during summers.” |
