It functions as the apex body of 31 State/Central Government Handicrafts Development Corporation and extends support to grass-root level organizations, NGOs, Self Help Groups and small entrepreneurs in the promotion of handicrafts. It aids in the dissemination of relevant information, diffusion of knowledge and sharing of ideas, promotion, protection and development of common interests of various sectoral stakeholders, while also developing an environment of better collaboration, co-ordination, etc. among them, conduction of professional technical management, marketing and other similar activities and services that are beneficial for the Handlooms sector, the organization is also associated with other relevant activities and initiatives, such as studies, surveys and research projects, apart from organizing common service facilities, courses, seminars, etc. and conduction of and participation on national/regional and international exhibitions, respectively.
