The Rural Organisation for Social Elevation (ROSE) is also known by its Hindi name of Koormanchal Seva Samsthan (KSS). A small group from the Kanda community of Uttarakhand founded KSS, a non-governmental, non-profit organization in 1981.
KSS/ROSE seeks to improve the health, education and quality of life of the rural poor in this region while maintaining cultural integrity and ecological balance. It works at grassroots level, to enable the community to become active participants in developmental initiatives. Examples of previous projects of KSS/ROSE include the installation of twin-tank latrines, construction of earthquake-proof homes, grassroots educational programmes on sanitation and employment generation for the rural unemployed. |
