  Organic Farming

Central Government
CAPART

Description/Purpose:

The objective of the scheme is to generate awareness among the farming community about ill-effects of chemicals in farming and the importance of organic farming and to motivate the community to adopt organic farming techniques. Organic framing has been considered as an agricultural production system that abides or excludes the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators and feed additives. This system mostly depends on locally available plant/animal resources, crop rotations, crop residues, animal manures, legumes, green manures, organic waste and biological control of pest and disease management for qualitative and quantitative crop production by using indigenous seed material (definitely not of genetically engineered origin). The components of organic farming activities are conceived to enhance maximum production in a sustainable manner by interacting with ecological well-being. Organic farming practices vary from region to region, crop to crop and season to season. Therefore it is important to develop a regional approach to organic farming.

Particulars:

The organic farming activities will be extended to the farmers in general and small and marginal farmers in particular by eligible and competent voluntary organisations, research institutions and committed individuals who have innovative ideas and are engaged in promotion of organic farming. The components of organic farming technology includes the following:

  2. Cropping systems include indigenous seed/vegetative clones, crop rotation, companion cropping, inter cropping, mulching etc;
  3. Use of Indian almanac or bio-dynamic planting calendar etc for agriculture practices;
  4. Water management systems to various crops in different agro climatic zones with proper irrigation systems;
  5. Crop Protection that includes use of bio-pesticides, pheromones, phona such as ladybirds, spiders as predators, and biological control agents;
