| Description/Purpose: |
The scheme was launched in 1987 and is valid up to the year 2011. It aims to popularize the latest improved fodder varieties amongst the farmers for fodder/fodder seed production in order to bridge the gap between demand and supply of the fodder. The scheme is for the benefit of Dairy farmers for improvement of fodder and fodder seed production to meet the requirement of these farmers of nutritive fodder for their animals. Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, implements the Scheme directly. Only dairy farmers are eligible under this scheme. |

| Particulars: |
Fodder seed Minikits of different fodder varieties are supplied to the State Departments of Animal Husbandry for onward distribution to the farmers free of cost. Each fodder minikit contains 1-5 kg. of fodder seed depending on the variety of fodder crop, along with a pamphlet on cultural practices to raise the fodder species. Under this scheme in the year 2002-03 total 4 lakhs minikits were allotted; in 2003-04 total 4.74 lakhs minikits were allotted against the target of 4 lakhs; in the year 2004-05 total 4.90 lakhs minikits were allotted against the target of 4 lakhs minikits. |
