| Description/Purpose: |
The State Government shall prepare an Employment Guarantee Scheme for providing employment to all adults residing in the rural areas who volunteer to do casual manual work, within 6 months of the commencement of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 |

| Particulars: |
The Parliament has enacted the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 in September, 2005. Under the Act, the livelihood security of the house hold in rural area has been ensured by guaranteeing one hundred days of guaranteed employment in every financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. The act came into force w.e.f. 2nd February, 2006 in the districts notified by the Government of India. In Himachal Pradesh Chamba and Sirmour districts, have been covered under this scheme. The rest of the districts of Himachal Pradesh will be covered in a phase manner. The following are the salient features of the act: To safeguards the right to work by providing 100 days guaranteed wage employment at the statutory minimum wage in a financial year to each household who volunteers to do casual manual labours in rural areas. Rural unemployed people are eligible for the scheme. |
