  The Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS)

Description/Purpose:

The objectives of Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) are:

• To provide semi-skilled/skilled workers to industry by systematic training to school leavers.
• To reduce unemployment among educated youth by equipping them with suitable skills for industrial employment.

 
Particulars:

Training in Govt. ITIs are provided free of cost or nominal fee is charged. They are also provided with library, sports and medical facilities.

The Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) was introduced by the Government of India in 1950 to ensure a steady flow of skilled workers in different trades for the domestic industry, to raise quantitatively and qualitatively the industrial production by systematic training, to reduce unemployment among the educated youth by providing them employable training, to cultivate and nurture a technical/ industrial attitude in the minds of the younger generation. The Scheme, shaping the skilled manpower for the country, was transferred to the State Governments from the year 1956.

The Craftsmen Training Scheme is conducted by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) all over the country, through the respective State Councils for Vocational Training (SCVT's) in the States.

Session in ITI s starts from 1st February and 1st August every year.

Eligibility criteria:

Any person who has passed Matric examinations can apply for the training offered through this Scheme.
