Swadhar – A scheme for women in difficult circumstances |

| Description/Purpose: |
It aims at addressing specific problems faced by every group of women in difficult circumstances. The Scheme seeks to achieve its objective through a home-based approach that is both holistic and integrated.
The government gets the scheme implemented and executed through selected NGOs. |

| Particulars: |
a.) Addressing basic requirements of shelter, food, clothing and care to women who are in need of the same, such as women who are deprived of any social or economic support.
b.) Providing counseling to those women, apart from providing them with emotional support.
c.) Ensuring social and economic rehabilitation of those women through various ways, such as imparting of education, awareness generation, skill enhancement, personality development, etc.
d.) Arranging for other appropriate supports (such as clinical and legal) for those women, through effective linking and networking with both government as well as non-government organizations.
e.) Providing those women with help line and other similar facilities.
f.) Extension of other necessary supports and services that may be required by the target women. |

| Beneficiaries: |
| The wide range of beneficiaries include the following – widows deserted by their respective families, women survivors of natural disasters who have lost their family and are thus deprived of any social and economic support, women survivors of extremist/terrorist violence who are left without any family or any other economic support, women prisoners released from jail but having no family to fall back on, women who have been victims of trafficking or have fled from brothels, women who are victims of sexual crimes and have been disowned by their family, mentally challenged women (excluding patients of psychotic categories in need of specializing care in hospitals) without any family support, women afflicted with HIV/AIDS deserted by their family, etc. |
