Description/Purpose:

The scheme has been launched by State Government in the year 1999-2000, during Rabi Season and is being implemented by the Agriculture Insurance Co. of India (AIC) for the benefit of the farmers of the state. Under this scheme crops like wheat, barley, maize, paddy and potato are covered. Small and Marginal Farmers receive subsidy in the form of premium. The scheme is compulsory for farmers who have taken loan, but optional for farmers who have not taken loan. It assures insurance against yield losses viz. drought, hailstorm, floods, pests, disease etc. From Kharif season of 2008, the ginger crop of Sirmour District has also been included under the Crop Insurance Scheme on Pilot basis.

 
Particulars:

In case of any loss, State and Central Government share the loss equally. From Rabi season of 2007-2008, the subsidy on premium has been raised from 10% to 50% for small and marginal farmers.
