Description/Purpose:

The scheme was launched on 31st March 2002 and is valid until 2012. The areas expansion scheme is one of the components of the Horticulture Technology Mission. Fruits like Apple (spur, color strains & processing varieties), Pear (colour strains), Plum, Peach, Nectarines, Apricot, Prunes, Cherry, Pomegranate, Hazel Nut, Walnut, Pecan Nut, Aonla, Mango, Litchi, Kiwi, Ber, Guava, Citrus (Sweet Orange, Kinnow, K. Lime), vegetables including root & tuber crops, exotic vegetables and Vegetable Hybrids, Flowers, Spices, Medicinal & Aromatic plants etc. are the crops being covered under this programme. Area Expansion also includes replacement of old and senile plants.

 
Particulars:

Under this scheme, Rs.22500 per ha (limited to Rs.90000 for 4 ha per beneficiary) is provided for fruits like orange, lime, lemon, guava, litchi, pomegranate, apple, passion fruit, kiwi, walnut, cherry, pear, peach and other perennial fruits. This assistance is spread over 3 years
1st Year:  50%, i.e. Rs. 11,500/-
2nd Year: 20% subject to 75% plant survival, i.e. Rs. 4,400/-
3rd Year: 30% subject to 90% plant survival i.e. Rs. 6,600/-
Rs.15000 per ha (limited to Rs60000 for 4 ha per beneficiary) is provided for non-perennial fruits like banana, pineapple, strawberry and papaya.
This assistance is also spread over 3 years
1st Year:  50%, i.e. Rs. 7,500/-
2nd Year: 20% subject to 75% plant survival i.e. Rs. 3,000/-
3rd Year: 30% subject to 90% plant survival, i.e. Rs. 4500/-.
Rs.13000 is provided for vegetables, spices, medicinal plants, aromatic plants and floriculture (per 0.2 hectares).
