Description/Purpose:

There is plenty of water resource in the form of perennial kuhls & channels in the state. Previously this resource was used only for the purpose of irrigation and for fulfilling the requirement of water in flourmills. The scheme promotes the utilization of water resources of the state for aquaculture.

 
Particulars:

Under this central government sponsored scheme, subsidy is provided to the fish farmers. The size of the fish culture unit is 100 square meters, having a per unit construction cost of Rs.20,000/-. This also includes the cost of inputs of Rs.4,000/-. The farmers can avail a subsidy of 20% with a maximum limit of Rs.4,000/- per unit.

The farmers belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories are entitled to get subsidy of 25% with the maximum limit of 5,000 per unit. This scheme can be availed by one farmer for 3 such units.
The fish farmers can approach the Directorate of Fisheries at Bilaspur and the Assistant Director Offices at the District Headquarters. Launched in January, 2002, the scheme is valid till January, 2012.

Eligibility criteria:

SC / ST farmers and other willing fish farmers, resident of Himachal Pradesh.
