Description/Purpose:

The Scheme for Small Family was launched in the year 1997 with the main objective to delay marriage and to maintain proper spacing between the first and the second child.

 
Particulars:

Under this scheme, the Government would provide Rs. 2500/-to unmarried girls who attain the age of 13 years as a Fixed Deposit in their name at the State Bank of Sikkim. If she remains unmarried at the age of 21 years, out of the accumulated   balance of principle and interest, she will receive a benefit of Rs. 2000/-

If she marries at the age of 22 years, an additional incentive of Rs. 500/- will be paid to her. If she marries at the age of 23 years an additional incentive of Rs. 1000/- will be paid to her.
If she has her first child after 2 years of marriage she will get an additional incentive of Rs. 1000/-. If she has her second child after a gap of 3 years she will be paid an additional incentive of Rs. 1000/-.
The balance remaining at the end of this particular period will be utilized for diverting Rs. 2500/- to start a new scheme on the above pattern for a new beneficiary.
The remaining amount after the Rs 2500/- has been diverted will be deposited in an interest bearing account in the name of the original beneficiary which will be available to her at the age of 50 years, provided she continues to have only two children.
The forms are available in the office of the Child Development project officer of four districts and also in the head office at Gangtok. Applicants are required to submit duly filled up application forms along with Sikkim Subject Certificate/ Certificate of Identification, Birth Certificate and three passport size photographs.
