Q. What are your dreams?
I want to study and become a government officer and fulfill the small needs that one has. I would like to work here in Arunachal because I was born here. I would like to study, go out of Arunachal, gain some knowledge and come back here.
Q. Do you think the state government here is supporting or providing opportunities for the youth in any way?
At the moment, there isn’t much support as such from the government. However, there are a few schemes like the community halls set up for the youth, which is good and helps in the development of the youth here.
Q. Do you see yourself as different from any other youth in the plains?
Arunachal is a backward region, so certain facilities are not available here compared to other parts of the country. However, we are no less; we try our best. I don't think there is much difference.
Q. What role do you think the youths play in the development of the country?
The youth can do a lot if they really want to because there is unity amongst the youth. Like here, we arrange meetings to discuss our problems and then approach the authorities.
Q. Do you think, because of increasing influence of Western culture, the youths here are forgetting their own culture and traditions?
During shows, the youth listen to and enjoy Western music and dance. Gradually, according to me the youth are forgetting their own culture, which we should not.
Q. Do you think then, that the youths should do something about preserving their culture?
First of all, we should not neglect our culture. We can promote and raise awareness regarding the richness of our culture through shows or plays.
Q. Do you dislike anything about life in the hills?
Due to excessive rain the transport system gets affected here. Roads get blocked and essential supplies do not reach us. Sometimes this goes on for 1 to 2 weeks. This is a problem. During winters it is the snow and during summers it is the rain that causes landslides.
Q. Have you been to the plains? What difference do you see between the hills and the plains?
Yes, I have been to the plains. That region is more developed. The transport system is good there. They have access to fresh vegetables that we do not get here. They have easy access to things like newspapers which we get a day late here. We have to read the day before’s newspaper here.
Q. Do you think if Arunachal gets developed like the plains it would affect the environment negatively?
Of course it would. The natural beauty, like the trees here would get affected. Development means constructing structures here, which is not good for the environment.
