Professor Manoranjan ‘Mano’ Misra along with his team in Nevada discovered that Biodiesel fuel could also be produced with the help of ‘chicken feather meal’, which consists of feathers, blood, innards of a chicken. Chicken feather meal is basically processed at very high temperatures with steam, and is further used as feed for animals and fertilizers due to its high protein and nitrogen content. The 12% fat content contained in the chicken feather meal is extracted and processed into biofuel. With the extraction of fat, the feather meal turns into a better source of Nitrogen as fertilizer and also a higher-grade feed for animals. According to statistics, feather meal will be able to generate 153 million gallons of biodiesel annually in the U.S. alone and around 593 million gallons globally.
