The Weavers’ Service Centre, Guwahati was established in the year 1978 with a view to develop the handloom industry in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The weavers’ Service Centre, has three different technical sections viz. Weaving, Processing (Dyeing and Printing) and Designing The W.S.C provides technical assistance in terms of design input, weaving, dyeing, printing etc. to weavers. They also conduct Design – cum- Dyeing workshop to create awareness in the weaver clusters. The W.S.C assists the weavers in the field of marketing also by channelizing them to various marketing agencies. The Centre also imparts training for product development, product diversification, design development on paper looms, as well as use of improved technology is taught for increasing productivity, lowering production cost and reducing fatigue of weavers.
