Description/Purpose:

In order to bridge the gap between potential created and utilised, Command Area Development activities (CAD) are also extended not only to medium schemes, but also to minor irrigation schemes. The objective is micro level infrastructure development, efficient farm water management practices, optimization of agricultural productivity & production and improvement of agricultural productivity. The command area development programme (CADP) was initiated in the year 1974-75 under Centrally Sponsored Scheme with the objective of fast utilization of created irrigation potential and optimum agriculture production from irrigable land. Initially 3 Medium Irrigation Projects were included under the centrally sponsored command area development programme, which has since been completed. 12 more CAD projects stands completed under CAD Programme. This Command Area Development Programme was initiated by the Government of India.

 
Particulars:

Initially, 3 Medium Irrigation Projects were included under the centrally sponsored command area development programme, which has since been completed. 5 more CAD projects stand completed, and deleted from the CAD Programme. 9 CAD Projects are in progress in the State. In addition to the above, 3 CAD Projects of Rohru & Chirgaon, Suni & Narkanda, and Paonta & Shallai have been sent to the Government of India. 6 CAD Projects are in progress in the State of Himachal Pradesh. As of March 2010, 22407 ha. field channels and 21811 ha. warabandi have been completed in Himachal Pradesh.
