Description/Purpose:

The scheme has been introduced for comprehensive risks insurance for the small and marginal farmers on select crops.

 
Particulars:

The crops covered under the scheme are Wheat, Barley, Maize, Paddy and Potato. Subsidy in premium is given for Small and Marginal Farmers. The scheme is compulsory for loanee farmers and optional for non-loanee farmers.

The scheme aims to provide insurance against yield losses from Drought, Hailstorm, Floods, Pests Disease etc. The Scheme is being implemented by the Agriculture Insurance Corporation of India (AIC).
The applicants can approach the Directorate of Agriculture, Krishi Bhawan, Boileauganj, Shimla and the offices of the Deputy Director at the district headquarters.
Introduced in January, 2006, the scheme is valid till January, 2012.

Small and marginal farmers.
 
Eligibility criteria:

The small and marginal farmers of the State can get benefit of this programme. Small farmers are define as cultivators with landholding of 2 hectares (5 acre) or less. Marginal farmers are defined as cultivators with landholding of 1 hectare (2.5 acre) or less. Availing the scheme is mandatory for the loanee farmers.
