  Development of Beekeeping

Description/Purpose:

The scheme was launched to promote apiculture in the state and provide alternative avenues for income generation. The scheme provides subsidy for beekeeping equipments to assist individuals to set up their enterprises.

 
Particulars:

Beekeeping has an important role in pollination, honey production and wax production. Pollination has its own importance in ecological cycle and also for the crops in the region along with the byproducts produced by the bees. For honey production, the bee colonies have to be migrated depending upon the availability of the flora.

Assistance is provided by the state government at the rate of 50% of the cost or Rs.250/- per colony and 50% of cost of Bee hives/equipment or Rs.350/- per set, which ever is less.
Applicants can approach the Directorate of Horticulture, Himachal Pradesh at Shimla and Assistant Director Offices at District Headquarters.

Introduced in January, 2002, the scheme is valid till January, 2012.

Eligibility criteria:

Individuals, resident of Himachal Pradesh.
